Michael Olise breaks silence after France disappointment at World Cup
France national team star, and Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise took to social media to express his disappointment after coming up short of the WC final.
Michael Olise has gone from player to keep an eye on to an international sensation in just two years. Since joining Bayern Munich, he has become one of the most exciting players in the world, and is coming off a fantastic World Cup debut.
Olise sends Les Bleus a message
The Frenchman took his time to digest the early exit from the tournament, but took to Instagram to send a message to his fans and the people of France. He assured that there was a feeling of disappointment after France failed to make their third straight World Cup final, but on a personal level he was proud to have made World Cup history in his first appearance in the tournament.
More than two weeks after France lost to Spain in the semifinals, the Bayern Munich man took to social media and sent a message to the world. “Not being able to take the trophy home is a huge disappointment. This is not how we had imagined the end of this World Cup at the beginning of the tournament,” said Olise.
France came into the tournament as one of the favorites to win a second World Cup since 2018. They had a front four that struck fear into just about every team’s eyes. Spain was not one of those teams, and showed the world how to stop such a potent attacking side. Neither Olise, nor Kylian Mbappé nor Ousmane Dembélé could figure out how to break down the Spanish back line.
Special shoutout to Deschamps
Olise was at the heart of the terrifying front four, playing provider for Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé. He ended the tournament with seven assists, a World Cup high, and acknowledged his record in his post. “Wearing the French national team jersey at a World Cup has always been a dream come true for me – and it always will be. Even though we couldn’t win the trophy, I’m proud to have set the record for the most assists in the history of a World Cup,” wrote the winger.
While the winger was happy to have hit the record setting mark with his two assists in the third placed game against England, he realizes that was far from the goal that France had set out with at the beginning of the tournament. “Above all, I would much rather be here to say that we won the World Cup together – with my teammates, the staff, the coaches and all the fans of the French national team,” said Olise.
The former Crystal Palace man also took time to send a message to former France national team manager, Didier Deschamps, who departed the team after France’s run in this World Cup came to an end. “I would also like to thank the national coach for first including me in the squad and for believing in me even in the most difficult moments. I will always be grateful to you and wish you all the best, whatever path you choose next,” continued Olise.
Olise, who is on the books at Bayern Munich, but is on the wishlist of Real Madrid this summer, didn’t mention what his future holds. Instead he wrapped up his post looking towards a brighter future with the national team, “This remains the goal that will continue to drive us, and we hope that we can give you many more moments of joy and unforgettable memories in the future that you can share with us.”
