Miguel Layún’s second stint at América could come to an end sooner than expected because several clubs are keen on signing the right-back during the winter transfer window. The 34-year-old’s contract with Las Águilas expires in December, but the club is willing to let him go in January since he is not a regular starter under manager Fernando Ortíz.

Liga MX or MLS?

The former Mexico international is being linked with a move to Club León for the upcoming Clausura 2023 and according to journalist Francisco Montes, the negotiations are in advanced stages. The reason why the Felines are interested in Layún is because they struggled at the right-back position last tournament due to injuries.

Now that Nicolás Larcamón has been appointed as the new manager, León wants to avoid having that problem during the Clausura 2023. So the arrival of Miguel Layún, an experienced player in Liga MX, would give them a solution if Byron Castillo or Stiven Barreiro are not available at any point of the tournament.

Miguel Layún has also been linked with a move to Major League Soccer and earlier this year he expressed his desire to play in the United States top tier. The 34-year-old also said that it would be a good move for him and his family to live in the United States.

“MLS could open new doors for me and my family. So yes, I do see myself playing there in the near future. I don’t know when to be honest,” said Miguel Layún. “My contract expires in December and I would like to play in Major League Soccer. It is something that interests me,” he concluded.
