Mini Messi museum opened in his Qatar World Cup bedroom
The Argentinian forward’s bedroom in the University of Qatar has been converted into a museum.
Now it has happened, it seems to make perfect sense, like the idea was always on the table in a Qatari think-tank: Lionel Messi’s bedroom at the Qatar University is being turned into a museum.
The Argentinian forward led his side to their third World Cup trophy, a dramatic game against France the finale to a wonderful campaign that saw Messi lift the one thing in football that had evaded him so for many years. For many, it cemented the PSG player as the best ever, and now you can see where he, erm, slept during the tournament.
Messi’s bedroom made headlines a few times during the tournament after it was noticed that he was sleeping alone... until teammate Sergio Agüero was to sleep with the forward in the lead up to the World Cup final match. At that time, the AFA allowed all players who did not make it to the squad due to injury, such as Giovani Lo Celso, Nico González and Joaquín Correa, to join the rest of the team and boost morale before the showpiece event.
Messi’s World Cup performance
Messi won the World Cup in extraordinary fashion, becoming the first player to score in all stages of the competition. His goal against Mexico may be his standout moment of the group stage, as it was what lifted Argentina off the ground following their shock loss to Saudi Arabia in the opening game. In the knockout rounds, he scored against Australia before knocking out the Netherlands. Croatia came in the semi-finals, where Messi squirmed past Gvardiol to set up Álvarez for the 3-0 goal. And in the final he shone again, scoring twice and taking the MVP of the tournament award. Oh, and the World Cup.
‘Messi’s bedroom will remain unchanged’
Liverpool stayed at the Qatar University in 2019 for their Club World Cup, prompting Argentina and Spain to do the same. “Messi’s bedroom will remain unchanged and will remain available only for visits and not to stay in, since it will now become a small museum that will contain his belongings and serve as a legacy for students and future generations as well as a testament to the great things Messi achieved during the World Cup” said Hitmi al Hitmi, the communications director of the University.
It is unconfirmed whether or not a sleeping Messi waxwork will be present in the room, cuddled up next to a snoozing Sergio Agüero.
