MLS commissioner Garber: “We hope to make an announcement about Messi very soon”
The MLS commissioner revealed that a few final details are still outstanding to make the Lionel Messi move to Inter Miami 100% official.
A few minor details need to ironed out before Inter Miami and MLS can make the official announcement confirming the signing of Lionel Messi for the ‘Herons’, according to Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the head honcho of the league revealed that a fine-tuning process is ongoing before the league can proceed with the official announcement. Messi is set to be unveiled as an Inter Miami player on 16 July and make his debut for the Florida based side on 21 in the Leagues Cup clash vs. Cruz Azul.
“We continue to work to finalize all aspects of our deal and hope to make some announcements about Messi very soon,” Don Garber explained to Sky Sports.
“I couldn’t be more excited that the greatest player to ever play the game has chosen Major League Soccer as his next destination,” added Garber.

Garber was also confident that the arrival of the former Barcelona and PSG striker would deliver a massive boost for the league.
“I think Messi’s arrival is a great testament to where MLS stands on the world soccer landscape. It is also a great achievement for Inter Miami, their ambition and what they are trying to do to build and grow the sport in the South Florida part. Messi is very supportive and it will be a great moment for football in the United States,” he concluded.
