MLS reveals Regular Season calendar 2024: Match Week 1 dates, times & fixtures
MLS has revealed the calendar for the upcoming season: here are the campaign curtain raisers.
One day after the SuperDraft and just a couple of weeks after Columbus Crew defeated LAFC in the MLS Cup final, Major League Soccer revealed the schedule for the 2024 campaign, which will begin midweek on Wednesday, February 21.
The opening game of the season will be between Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake, which will open what is set to be an intriguing campaign for The Herons, one in which they will seek to reach the playoffs and fight for the MLS Cup title, something they ultimately failed to do in the 2023 season, where they did not make the playoffs due to a late-season slump.
This game between Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake will be the only game on opening day in midweek; according to MLS, it will serve as a prelude to the full MLS Is Back weekend, which starts on the following Saturday.
When does the MLS 2024 season begin?
After the curtain-raiser, we will have to wait until Saturday, February 24, for more action, when 11 matches will be played, starting off the first week of the MLS is Back match week.
Match week 1 will end with three games on Sunday, February 25, including Inter Miami’s visit to LA Galaxy.
How many games will each team play in the regular season?
MLS Champions, Columbus Crew, will make their home debut on Saturday, February 24 at Lower.com Stadium against Atlanta United, as they look to start their campaign on the right foot.
MLS also announced that the season will comprise of each team playing 34 games in the regular season: 17 home and 17 away. It should be noted that each team will play twice against every opponent in their conference and will also have six or seven games against select opponents from the opposing conference.
