MLS transferring more players to Europe than any other league in Americas
According to journalist Jaime Ojeda, 72 players from MLS arrived in Europe during the last two transfer windows.
Major League Soccer was very active in the signing and transferring of players during the summer transfer window. Riqui Puig (LA Galaxy), Gareth Bale (LAFC), Lorenzo Insigne (TFC) and Federico Bernardeschi (TFC) are among the biggest names that arrived in MLS this season.
A busy summer for MLS clubs
MLS clubs were also very busy sealing outgoing transfers to Europe during the summer. One of the biggest players to leave MLS was the reigning golden boot winner Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos, who made the switch from New York City FC to Girona.
The 23-year-old has made five appearances in LaLiga this season and already scored his first goal. Meanwhile, CF Montréal ace Djordje Mihailovic completed a move to Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, which will take place in January 2023. Chicago Fire made a similar deal with Chelsea to send goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina to the Premier League at the end of the 2022 MLS campaign.

Per the report, 24 outgoing players were Americans, eight were from Canada and 40 were from other countries. The United States’ second tier, the USL, recorded a total of 27 outgoing transfers this summer to different clubs in Europe. In second place is the Brasileirão Série A, with 67 outgoing transfers, and in third position is the Argentine Primera División, with 37.
