Mohamed Salah: ‘It’s my last year with Liverpool'

The Egyptian star has made waves ahead of the visit of Manchester United, suggesting he is preparing for an Anfield exit.

Mohamed Salah's Liverpool contract situation

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has issued the clearest signal yet that he is preparing for life away from Anfield at the end of the 2024/25 season, admitting that he is in his “last year” with the club.

The Egyptian has been in inspired form this campaign, leading Arne Slot’s side to the top of the table in both the Premier League and the Champions League. A historic season beckons for Liverpool but Salah’s contract - along with that of teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk - has been allowed to enter the final six months.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Salah revealed his ambitions for the season: “In my interviews over the last seven or eight years, I always say [I want to win the] Champions League. But this is the first time I’m saying I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool.

He continued: “I have no idea. It’s probably because we didn’t celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted and also, coming back here too, it’s my last year in the club so you want to do something special for the city.”

The prospect of losing a red-hot Mohamed Salah on a free transfer will be giving Liverpool fans sleepless nights but there is still hope that he will re-sign. Many have suggested that Salah’s public statements - which have become increasingly forceful - are simply a part of the negotiation between him and the club. Nevertheless when rivals Manchester United visit on Sunday, Liverpool fans will be in full support of their star.
