Mohamed Salah proves his worth in Liverpool win

His contribution has been questioned at times this season, but Mohamed Salah offered proof of his enduring quality as he sealed Liverpool’s passage to the next round of the FA Cup. Two dazzling moments from the Egyptian were enough to finish off a resilient Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday.

The first half was goalless but Liverpool took charge of the game early in the second. Salah unlocked the Wolves defense with a deft shimmy and found Andy Robertson to open the scoring with a brilliant left-footed strike. Soon after, Salah provided the finishing touch on a swift Liverpool move to put the Reds in the driving seat.

With a two-goal lead, Liverpool gave their opponent no chance to respond and controlled the game through to the final stages. With 20 minutes remaining Salah was substituted to rapturous applause from the travelling Liverpool fans, but Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz came off the bench to maintain their dominance.

Liverpool’s third goal of the evening came from Curtis Jones, who struck with a precise left-footed shot that sealed Wolverhampton’s fate. A happy night for Liverpool despite Hwang Hee-chan’s late consolation goal. Arne Slot’s side are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a minimum of fuss, and can now turn their attention to the Champions League meeting with Galatasaray on Tuesday.
