Chelsea fans don’t want Enzo Fernandez back: “I want him gone” - Pundits already talking about replacements

Chelsea supporters are already divided over whether Enzo Fernández deserves a warm welcome back to Stamford Bridge after the midfielder’s controversial World Cup campaign with Argentina.

Speaking on TalkSport, one fan admitted Fernández had been one of Chelsea’s best performers last season, but said his actions during the World Cup had changed his view completely.

“I’ve been a huge fan of what he’s given us on the pitch,” the caller, Tim, said. “He’s a great player to have.”

But he added that the Argentina international’s behavior during the tournament crossed the line.

“The way the guy’s conducted himself on the pitch is just absolutely disgusting. I’m thoroughly embarrassed that he plays for my club.”

Tim pointed to Fernández’s aggressive challenges, his sending off in the World Cup final, and his participation in celebrations involving a Falklands-related banner.

“It’s just disgraceful. I want him gone. Let’s just cash in.”

TalkSport host Andy Goldstein and former Premier League striker Troy Deeney questioned whether Chelsea could really afford to lose one of their most influential midfielders, especially after an inconsistent campaign.

Deeney argued Fernández provides something Chelsea have often lacked.

“Is it wise to get rid of the one player with a bit of bite?”

Tim admitted that any decision would depend on who Chelsea could sign as a replacement, prompting laughter in the studio as he joked about the club’s mixed record in the transfer market.

Not every supporter agreed.

Another caller, Michael, who described himself as a season-ticket holder who follows Chelsea home and away with his young son, defended Fernández and said television viewers often miss the work he does without the ball.

“What he does off the ball at Chelsea is unbelievable. You don’t see that when you’re sat on the sofa.”

He also argued that Fernández’s combative style is exactly what supporters should expect from an Argentine player.

“What we’re missing in football is bite, aggression... You bring an Argentinian and you want that from them.”

Michael dismissed suggestions that Fernández’s World Cup behavior should outweigh his performances for Chelsea, saying football fans are famously quick to change their minds.

“We’re fickle football fans. We scream abuse at you, you score a hat-trick and we love you again.”

The debate also turned to what Chelsea would do if Fernández were sold.

While neither Goldstein nor Deeney named specific transfer targets, both acknowledged that replacing the Argentine would be the key question if the club decided to cash in. Tim himself conceded his position depended on one factor.

“I guess it would all depend on who you’re replacing him with.”

With emotions from the World Cup still running high, the discussion suggests Fernández’s return to Stamford Bridge may not receive the universally warm reception many expected. While some supporters believe his edge and competitiveness are exactly what Chelsea need, others feel his conduct in Argentina’s colors has damaged their relationship with one of the club’s biggest stars.
