Mohamed Salah’s agent denies Liverpool Champions League claim
Liverpool could struggle to qualify for next season’s Champions League which had led to rumours surrounding Mohammed Salah’s future.
Mohamed Salah’s agent has rubbished reports that his client could be set to leave Liverpool if the Reds fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, as had been suggested by Fichajes.net.
The Spanish media outlet’s claims were widely reported on Twitter earlier on Monday and made their way as far as Salah’s representative Ramy Abbas Issa, who felt the need to address – and deny – the claims. “Nonsense. This was never discussed or thought about. Not qualifying to the Champions League hasn’t even crossed our minds”, read Abbas’ emphatic response to the rumours.
How many goals has Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool?
Salah has netted 175 goals in 289 games since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017, playing a key role as the club ended their 30-year wait for a Premier League title in 2019-20, the season after they won the European Cup/Champions League for the sixth time.
How far off the Champions League spots are Liverpool?
Both the Egyptians and the Reds, however, have failed to hit the heights expected of them this season, as they are currently down in seventh spot in the Premier League standings, nine points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur, who currently occupy the final Champions League place, and five behind fifth-placed Newcastle United. They do have two games in hand on Spurs, though, and Newcastle’s form has tailed off slightly, which suggests that Jürgen Klopp’s side could yet force their way into the top-four reckoning.
