How much is Erling Haaland potential new Nike contract worth?
Manchester City striker Haaland has been at the centre of a sponsorship battle between Nike, Adidas and Puma in recent weeks.
Erling Haaland’s future looks to be resolved! According to The Athletic, the Manchester City frontman is set to agree a new sponsorship deal with Nike that will earn him in the region of $24 million a year. The Norwegian striker’s previous agreement with the American sports brand came to an end on December 31 and he opted not to immediately renew it, which sparked something of a tug-of-war with two other interested parties.
Haaland and Mbappé to be the faces of Nike
Nike were obviously desperate not to lose a star client, while Haaland has also held discussions with Adidas and Puma, even playing a match wearing the former’s boots. However, after two months of talks and trying out different equipment, everything points to the City attacker prolonging his relationship with Nike. Unsurprisingly, he will be paid handsomely in return and become one of the faces of the American brand, who also have Kylian Mbappé signed to them.
Puma sign Grealish instead of Haaland
Lionel Messi is Adidas’ main star, with Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar being Puma’s biggest name, although the fight to add Haaland to their portfolio had become top priority for all three brands. Puma, say The Athletic, have admitted defeat and instead opted to sign the striker’s City teammate Jack Grealish, has finally started to become an important player for Pep Guadriola in recent months. In a straight shoot-out between Nike and Adidas, it appears as if Haaland has decided that staying put is his best strategy.
