WORLD CUP 2022

Morocco unhappy with Egypt’s Mohamed Salah

The Liverpool star has come under fire after the Atlas Lions’ heroics at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and one journalist believes he knows why.

Morocco’s performance at the 2022 World Cup continues to fill the Arab region with pride, and during these incredible days since it has shown its support for the Atlas Lions. But in the North African country there is a feeling that one of the continents biggest stars has been notable his absence when it comes to making a strong statement of support.

That player, considered to one of the best in the world over recent years, is Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ Mohamed Salah, fifth in the most recent Ballon d’Or.

The Reds striker has been hounded on social media for not having made any public statement in favour of the Moroccan team in recent weeks, despite his accounts being very active. The player, after enjoying a few days of vacation, has been back training under Jürgen Klopp with teammates who also missed out on the FIFA event. Egypt failed to qualify for the Qatari event after being knocked out by Senegal.

Why has Salah not publicly congratulated Morocco?

Amr Adib, an influential Egyptian journalist, has his version of why Salah has not sent any message of congratulations (as far as we know) to Morocco. This was expressed in the MBC program La Historia: “It seems that Mohamed Salah thinks that Morocco has not supported him in many votes. Salah is always with everyone, but he feels that in this case they did not support him and that is why he has responded that way.”

Liverpool and Salah are back in action on Thursday as they face rivals Manchester City in the English league cup. No doubt any public appearances will include a question on this topic, but then again, he may just find a chance to say something on social media and haters can stop their hating.
