It was an impressive performance by Jude Bellingham as he takes his initial steps to proving he’s the force to be reckoned with at Real Madrid that many people believe. He scored, with a delightful lob over Manchester United’s new goalkeeper André Onana, he was named Most Valuable Player, and then he shows his charismatic touch post-match. The young talent from Stourbridge in England left a lasting impression on fans and critics alike.

Bellingham happy with Madrid move

Speaking to the media in the mixed zone, Bellingham displayed both control and personality as he discussed his feelings about the match and his experience with the club.

“I am happy and calm, enjoying life in this club,” the 20-year old shared when asked about his emotions after the game. “My colleagues have welcomed me very well from day one, and they have made me feel really comfortable.”

One of the highlights of the match was, of course, Bellingham’s first goal for Madrid. He humorously recalled how he kept checking with Luka Modric to see if he was offside, but when the goal was allowed, he was able to later give credit to Antonio Rüdiger for the fantastic pass that led to it.

“I’m happy to contribute to the team in any way I can, and I hope this is just the beginning,” Bellingham remarked. “It’s a joy to play with these players and I say that in every interview.

“I don’t know if the goal was offside, I’m not sure. It was a great pass from Rüdiger. It’s really nice to play with players who understand my movements.”

When asked about his expectations before joining his new club, Bellingham confessed that he didn’t imagine it like this.

“Everything has surprised me very pleasantly. I felt confident from the start, from both the staff and my team-mates. I feel comfortable and confident.”

Having been deployed in a forward role, Bellingham discussed his role on the pitch.

“I don’t think it’s a specific position, but Ancelotti sees that I have fun and can contribute a lot to the team there. I will play where they put me.”

During the game, Bellingham had an intense encounter with Lisandro Martínez, but he brushed it off as part of the competitive nature of the sport. And he even showcased his linguistic skills by attempting to speak Spanish, responding with a coy “poco a poco” (meaning “little by little”) when asked to say something in the language.

As for the team’s goals for the season, Bellingham was ambitious, saying that the club would be fighting for everything as usual, while when it came to thoughts on any potential new signings, with Mbappé on everyone’s lips, he was not drawn in.

“I know why you ask me that... I am focused on the pitch, training, and giving my best for the team.”
