Nacho’s new Real Madrid contract confirmed: when does it expire?
Nacho Fernández has put pen to paper on a new Real Madrid contract, extending his stay at a club he joined over 20 years ago.
Real Madrid have confirmed that long-serving defender Nacho Fernández has renewed his contract at the Bernabéu. The 33-year-old, who is a club youth product, has penned a deal running until June 2024.
Nacho follows Kroos in signing new contract
The announcement comes a day after Madrid revealed that midfielder Toni Kroos, who was also out of contract this summer, has signed a 12-month extension. Madrid are still to confirm new deals with Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos, who are both understood to have reached agreements with the club.
Madrid’s new club captain
Including his career in Madrid’s youth academy, Nacho will next term be embarking on his 23rd season with Los Blancos. Following the departure of Karim Benzema earlier this month, the veteran is set to take over the club captaincy at the 14-time European champions.
Nacho joined Madrid as an under-12s’ player in 2001, before making his senior debut for the Spanish giants in April 2011. Since then, he has amassed a total of 319 first-team appearances for the club.
Trophy-laden career at the Bernabéu
Nacho has won 23 pieces of silverware with Madrid: three LaLiga titles, five Champions Leagues, two Copas del Rey, four Spanish Super Cups, four UEFA Super Cups and five Club World Cups.
Capped 24 times by Spain, he was part of the team that won the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League on Sunday, beating Croatia on penalties in the final in Rotterdam.
