Nashville SC launch stunning Johnny Cash tribute jersey
The new Nashville SC away shirt for the 2023 pays tribute to one of the most influential artists in recent time, ‘The Man in Black’ aka Johnny Cash.
With the new 2023 MLS season fast approaching we’ve seen countless teams unveil new home and away shirts for the season ahead.
The side from Tennessee will be playing their fourth season and looking to improve on their previous campaigns with the Geodis Park outfit never progressing past the first round of the postseason.
One jersey release stands out from the crowd in preseason however and that is the new 2023-24 season away shirt from Nashville SC with the club hitting the headlines with their ‘Man in Black’ jersey.
The shirt is a result of a collaboration with the Johnny Cash Estate with the Man in Black Kit was inspired by Nashville fans The Backline Supporters Collective after they unfurled a Johhny Cash tifo in the club’s first ever MLS home game in February 2020.

“From the first day we started Nashville Soccer Club, we talked a lot about being ‘uniquely Nashville,’” said Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre. “This city is steeped in music history and Icons of that industry. None more so than the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash.
“Nashville meant so much to my father, both as a historical music community and a welcoming home,” says John Carter Cash. “Connecting the Cash legacy to Nashville Soccer Club and Major League Soccer, and the joy it’s bringing to Nashville residents, would have made him proud. I’m delighted to see the Man in Black celebrated alongside the Boys in Gold.”
Nashville SC will wear the Man in Black kit for the very first time on 25 February as they host New York City FC in the first home match of the MLS 2023 season.
