What a day for Dumfries
One goal and two assists!
It's all over for the USA
The USA are going home. They got back into the game in the second half through Wright's goal but the Dutch team's experience shone through and they didn't allow Pulisic to do his thing.
The Netherlands were technically superior to the USA today but Berhalter's side gave it a right go. They're a very young, inexperienced team and will be all the better for their World Cup experience.
Netherlands into quarter-finals
They will face the winner of Argentina-Australia.
Goals from Depay, Blind and Dumfries have helped the Netherlands book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

GOAL!
THE USA HAVE SCORED!!!
Wright!
He goes past Noppert but the angle is just too tight and his shot is cleared. It's hitting the side netting. He's 15 yards out but should really shoot first time.
Wright is offside for the USA.
Depay!
What a chance that is!
The Koopmeiners shot is rebounded into Depay's path but he heads straight at Turner.
It could so easily have been 3-0! Actually, no it wouldn't have been. The linesman has just raised his flag.
Van Dijk heads over the bar from a corner on the right.
The Liverpool man can't keep his header down.
Aaronson fouls Timber. Free-kick for the Netherlands. They are leading 2-0 and heading for the quarter-finals.
Aaronson and Wright are on for the USA. Aaronson did well off the bench against Iran.
Double US change
Big 25 minutes left
The US have 25 minutes to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Robinson is down getting treatment for the US.
The USA are about to make a couple of changes as they look to turn this game around.
It remains Netherlands 2-0 USA.
Pulisic stands over the free. It's a poor delivery. The Dutch clear and go on the break.
Depay gets a shot off from 20 yards. Turner tips it over but it was going over anyway.
Pulisic is taken out again.
Koopmeiners picks up a yellow for his sins.
Pulisic take the free. Van Dijk heads it out.
Van Dijk takes Pulisic down. The US have a free-kick, but it's a long way out.
Argentina take on Australia after this. On Sunday, it's France vs Poland and England vs Senegal.
If you're only joining us, Depay and Blind are the names on the score-sheet for the Dutch. They are on their way to the quarter-finals, as it stands.
McKennie!
He collects it on the 18-yard line, gets it out of his feet, and shoots over with his left foot.
The US are probing.
The US have to go for it!
Pulisic cuts inside onto his right foot and lets fly from 20 yards.
It's low and straight at Noppert.
Dest shoots from the edge of the box but it's well wide.
It goes out for a throw!
Netherlands 2-0 USA
Pulisic takes the corner from the right. Gakpo clears Ream's effort off the line. Good chance for the US!
The Netherlands are going through to the quarter-finals, as things stand. The USA have it all to do and trail 2-0.
With Klaassen coming off, Gakpo will drop back into the No.10 role. Bergwijn joins Depay in attack.
Van Gaal makes double change
OFF Davy Klaassen
ON Teun Koopmeiners
OFF Marten De Roon
ON Steven Bergwijn
USA change
OFF Jesus Ferreira
ON Giovanni Reyna
So, I have some changes to report.
The USA get us underway for the second half!
USA have it all to do
The USA have had plenty of the ball but haven't penetrated. Pulisic got in behind after three minutes and Noppert saved it superbly. Then Depay went up the other end and got on the end of a Dumfries cross to open the scoring. Blind then doubled the lead right on half-time.
The Dutch extend their lead
HT: Netherlands 2-0 USA
The Netherlands lead at the break!
Just like the first goal, Dumfries slides it across goal from the right.
Blind is all alone and scores with acres of space in the box to make it 2-0.
It's a major blow for the US right before the break.
Blind on his 98th cap, makes it TWO.
The Netherlands are flying!
GOAL!
BLIND MAKES IT TWO!
The US are full of energy. Dest bursts forward but can't get proper contact on the shot.
Blind plays Gakpo in on the right. Gakpo pushes Ream off the ball but he can't find Depay, who makes the run.
It's end to end now!
WEAH!
It's an excellent strike on the half-volley from the edge of the area.
Noppert saves well. it's a nice height for the shot-stopper. 1-0
The final product lets the US down again.
Pulisic overhits it when Robinson is there.
Timber blocks Pulisic's shot. Timber is dragged out but does well and the US have a throw-in. Ream takes it quickly and it's recycled back to Adams.
Virgil van Dijk could take his deck chair out at times. He looks like he's playing in second gear, controlling everything with ease.
Van Gaal's side are very comfortable out of possession. De Jong is sitting in front of the defence. In possession, Depay and Gakpo are the main threats going forward, with Klaassen in the '10'.
The US, without a regular goalscorer, are finding it difficult to turn the screw here. Adams, McKennie and Musah is a strong midfield three, and they will need to conjure up some creativity to supply the forward line if Berhalter's side are to get back into this one.
For the first time in USMNT World Cup history, all 11 starters vs Iran featured for European clubs: England (6), Italy (2), France (1), Scotland (1) Spain (1)
Ferreira is fouled by Dumfries and the USA have a free-kick. 1-0
The Netherlands, being organised by Van Dijk at the heart of the defence, are defending really well and the US have been unable to break them down. They are running out of ideas when they get into the final third.
De Jong stops his Barcelona team-mate Dest, who tries to find a way through.
Coming up after this is Argentina vs Australia.
It's starting to settle down now. The US are looking to get control of the game after going behind.
Nine players have started all four matches thus far for the USA: goalkeeper Matt Turner, defenders Sergiño Dest, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson, midfielders Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah, and forwards Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah.
Total football
Depay, in a confident mood, fires his volley wide from about 25 yards. He's looking sharp but fails to test Turner with that one.
Robinson makes a surging run forward, and looks for the one-two with McKennie. The latter overhits the return pass. It's a goalkick to the Netherlands.
Gakpo goes on a mazy run before laying it off to Blind, who blazes over. It's a poor effort.
We have a Mexican wave here!
37 goals in his last 54 games with the Netherlands for Depay!
It's quite the record.
Gakpo and Depay have linked really well in the opening 15 minutes. Gakpo has been excellent in the World Cup. Depay didn't start the first game of the tournament but made his mark with an assist and he continues to feature and produce.
Depay opens the scoring
The Dutch take the lead.
It's Depay's 43rd goal for his country. And it's a special goal by the Dutch. Total football.
Netherlands 1-0 USA
It's a sweeping move by the Netherlands.
Dumfries crosses first time from the right and Memphis holds his run before finishing low into the far left corner.
GOAL!
MEMPHIS DEPAY SCORES!!!
Memphis cuts in onto his right after a couple of stepovers but scuffs his cross and the US are able to clear.
Pulisic whips the corner in from the left.
The corner is overhit and goes out near the far corner flag.
Noppert will take the goalkick.
Louis van Gaal is the oldest manager at the World Cup. He is 71 and will be replaced by Ronald Koeman as the next manager of the Netherlands.
Pulisic is in a 1v1 with Noppert, who gets down superbly to keep the US forward out. He was onside.
What a chance that is for the USA!
PULISIC!
What a save by Noppert!
The US, all in white, have the early possession so far.
The Netherlands are playing from left to right in their traditional orange.

And now for the Netherlands national anthem.

No Reyna for USA
Gio Reyna is not starting for the USA against the Netherlands. He could, however, come on today and make a difference. Berhalter has started Ferreira in the forward line instead. It will be Ferreira's first appearance at this World Cup.
Youth runs through US side
Eighteen USA players have made their World Cup debut, a USMNT record for a single edition of the tournament.
The US have the second-youngest squad at the 2022 World Cup behind only Ghana.
Berhalter's three lineups against Wales (25 years, 102 days), England (25 years, 169 days) and Iran (25 years, 102 days) are three of the four youngest starting XIs in the tournament.
Berhalter inspired by the Dutch
Gregg Berhalter has been inspired by Dutch football.
The USMNT coach played professionally in the Netherlands for six seasons.
Berhalter’s time in the Dutch league – six years at Zwolle, Sparta and Cambuur – shaped who he is as a coach and his football philosophy.
USA warm up
Berhalter's boys are going through their pre-match routine. Kickoff is not too far away now.
One to Watch: Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo has scored three goals at the World Cup so far, making him top of the tree along with Enner Valencia, Álvaro Morata, Marcus Rashford and Kylian Mbappé.
His ball-striking ability is excellent, and his dead-ball delivery gives the Netherlands a new dimension when it comes to attacking play.
The Netherlands and the United States will kick off the knockout stages at Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday 3 December, following a group stage that saw two heavyweights - Germany and Belgium - suffer humiliating early exits.
This is the second straight World Cup at which the Germans have failed to make it out of their group; prior to 2018, the four-time world champions hadn’t gone out in the first round since all the way back in 1938.
A number of teams are in the last 16 after qualifying in dramatic fashion on what, in general, was an edge-of-the-seat final round of group games.
Pre-match strolls and selfies

Message from President Biden
"It's called soccer!"
Oranje fans
Kickoff is approaching and the costumes are out!
Van Gaal: “A move to Belgium? I’ve already thought about it.”
Louis van Gaal played down taking over the Belgium job just a day after the Red Devils crashed out of the World Cup.
Van Gaal will be leaving his role as Oranje boss at the end of the year with Ronald Koeman taking over.
Roberto Martinez will be standing down from his role and after being asked about the role Van Gaal joked he will need to get permission from his wife first.
“A move to Belgium? I’ve already thought about it,” he said before speaking about how he was not shocked by Belgium’s early exit.
“I’m not surprised,” he said. “We also won twice against Belgium in the Nations League.
“However, they have players around that I really like. But in my eyes, it is always about the team. Look, they should have won yesterday and then they were just qualified. But football is not just about technique and tactics. There’s also luck involved.
“Belgium is a beautiful country, with very friendly people. Knokke is a beautiful beach palace. I’ve already thought about it, but then you have to convince my wife Truus,” he laughed.
“I can always make free decisions. But I’m working on the Netherlands here, we want to become world champions. There are still four games to go, after that we’ll see if there will be any offers. But I know that if we become world champions, there will be offers.”
Wilton Sampaio is in charge for the match between the Netherlands and the USA. The Brazilian, who has been FIFA listed since 2013, has already overseen two games during this tournament: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia and Senegal 0-2 Netherlands.
Sampaio will have Bruno Boschilla and Bruno Pires as his assistants, while Andres Mathias Matonte will be the fourth official.
USA team news
As for the USA, head coach Gregg Berhalter will be happy to have Christian Pulisic back, after it was confirmed on Friday evening that the 24-year-old forward will be fit to feature against the Netherlands. The US coach now has a full squad to choose from.
Netherlands team news
For the Netherlands, Louis van Gaal has admitted that his team have been suffering from flu symptoms, but chose not to reveal the players or the specific symptoms in question.
USA's knockout record
The USA have qualified for the knockout stage in seven of 11 FIFA World Cup appearances and three of the last four.
The Netherlands, currently ranked No. 8 in the world, are back in the World Cup having missed the 2018 tournament.
Netherlands feeling confident
With the likes of Cody Gakpo in their side, the Netherlands are confident of brushing the US aside to make it to the quarter-finals.
Let the fun commence
Or will you be a bag of nerves?
Knockout stages begin
Today's early game is the first of the knockout rounds, with the Netherlands taking on the USA in the round of 16 at the Khalifa International Stadium.
The Netherlands topped Group A with 7 points, while Gregg Berhalter's USA side came second in Group B with 5 points.
USA beat Iran to advance to last 16
The USMNT beat Iran 1-0 on Tuesday to book a last-16 clash with the Netherlands.
Defensively, the US stayed tight and in midfield, Yunus Musah, Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie impressed, getting through a huge amount of work.
It was a solid performance throughout. They put their bodies on the line in what was a proper team display.
Christian Pulisic scored arguably the biggest goal of his career, and picked up a knock in the process of bundling the ball over the line.
