Héctor Herrera has officially joined Houston Dynamo FC from Atlético Madrid.

Fans of the MLS club won’t have to wait long for his debut, as the club announced on Thursday that the Mexican international will be eligible for selection for Houston’s match with FC Dallas at PNC Stadium on 9 July.

The 32-year-old was given a warm send-off by Atlético as he departed the Spanish side at the end of the 2021/22 season, having joined in 2019. He made 21 league appearances for Diego Simeone’s side last season.

Herrera is expected to arrive in Houston in late June to join up with the Texan side. He signed a pre-contract with the Dynamo in March before finishing the season with Atlético.

International experience

Herrera is one of the smartest acquisitions of the MLS offseason. He will add plenty of experience to his new club, having LaLiga, Champions League and international experience. He’s played up to 100 times for El Tri and has featured in two World Cups.
