Tenerife-born midfielder Alberto Moleiro is one of the great promises of Spanish football. An international at Under-19 level, the teenager is strongly linked with a move to Barça. ESPN’s Moises Llorens reports that Barça are already negotiating with UD Las Palmas to sign him.

Repeat of Pedri plan

For the time being, both clubs are thinking about repeating the same formula which they employed with Pedri three seasons ago - a transfer will be agreed but Moleiro will remain with Las Palmas for another season in the Second Division on loan. In the summer of 2019, Bartomeu’s Barcelona paid five million euros for Pedri - a young player who was still with Las Palmas’ youth team but who now is one of the team’s star players, an full international with Spain and one of the brightest young stars in the game. With all the economic bonuses and variables, Las Palmas ended up earning 20 million euros from the sale.

Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez confirmed that Moleiro would be staying put for the time being in a press conference on Thursday, telling reporters: “Alberto Moleiro is aplayer who a number of national and international clubs are interested in signing, but he’ll be playing for us next season. We’ve also received enquiries about Jonathan Viera, but he is not for sale”.

Las Palmas missed their chance to be promoted back to the top flight, losing the Play-Off semi-final to Tenerife. Moleiro was a regular in the side last season under both Pepe Mel and García Pimienta. In total , he made 24 starts in 37 appearances, racking up 2,060 minutes on-field with three goals and one assist.
