New threat emerges for Messi future

In recent days, reports suggested that talks over Lionel Messi’s contract extension with Inter Miami were progressing positively for both sides. But on Monday, new information emerged that could shift the landscape surrounding the Argentine’s future.

According to L’Équipe, Saudi Arabia is making a renewed push to lure the World Cup winner from Qatar 2022. The French daily claims that Al-Ahli is determined to secure the signature of the legendary forward, writing: “The board of the AFC Champions League winners has been working for several weeks to convince the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.”

Messi’s current deal with Inter Miami runs until the end of December 2025, a detail that adds urgency to both Miami’s and Al-Ahli’s plans. While no financial specifics have been disclosed, L’Équipe reports that Saudi Arabia – which will host the 2034 World Cup – is willing to go all out to tip the scales in its favor.

Miami hoping for Messi extension

Inter Miami, for its part, is still firmly committed to renewing the contract of their No 10. It’s also worth noting that the club’s much-anticipated new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, is scheduled to open in March 2026.

If Messi were to make the move to Saudi Arabia, he’d be joining a star-studded Al-Ahli squad featuring the likes of Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Franck Kessié, Ivan Toney, Merih Demiral and Édouard Mendy.
