The New York Red Bulls have emerged as the surprise package of this MLS tournament. Despite finishing the regular season in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings and not being considered among the favorites to reach this stage, they have defied expectations to secure their spot in the MLS Cup final (Dec 7, 4:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. PT.).
The Red Bulls previously made it to the competition’s final in 2008, where they faced the Columbus Crew. However, the team from the Big Apple fell short, losing 3-1 and seeing their hopes of lifting the trophy dashed.
Now, under the leadership of Brian Schmetzer, they have the opportunity to make a definitive statement in the campaign’s most crucial match.
