Neymar’s gift to Lionel Messi and family: “From the Prince to the Genius”
The former Barcelona and PSG teammates are still close friends.
What do you get for the man who has everything? With four Champions League titles, eight Ballon d’Ors and a World Cup winner’s medal to his name, Lionel Messi does not want for much. Nevertheless, long-time friend Neymar Jr. has sent his former teammate a gift from Brazil.
Neymar is now back at boyhood team Santos in his native Brazil. This week the Brazilian star sent Messi a set of signed ‘Neymar 10′ jerseys for him and his sons. Lionel, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro Messi each received a signed jersey, with a special note from the Santos social media team paying tribute to Messi’s incredible career.
In Portuguese, the message says: “From Neymar Jr to Lionel Messi. From the Prince to the Genius. The Sacred Jersey, of immeasurable value, with the number eternalized by the King. 10 of Neymar. 10 of Messi. 10 of Pelé. An infinite legacy in the history of football. Greetings from Vila Belmiro, Lionel Messi!”
Neymar returned to Santos in January 2025 after an injury-hit spell with Saudi pro League club Al Hilal. He has rekindled some of his previous form since returning to Brazil but he is still struggling with fitness issues. Neymar retains hope of forcing his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup but he is running out of time to prove to the veteran coach that he still has something to offer at the elite level.
