Not so ‘sweet 16′ for Tecatito as FMF hit Rayados with fine
Jesús Manuel Corona’s debut for Monterrey against Leon will be forever remembered by a fine imposed by the FMF on Rayados.
Jesús Manuel Corona, aka Tecatito made his second spell debut with Rayados over the weekend but the appearance has been surrounded by controversy as it turns out that the number chosen by the player (16), should not have been used and this oversight has lead to a fine imposed on Monterrey by the FMF (Mexican FA).
Three days after the Monterrey vs León game, the Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican Soccer Federation issued a short statement in which they outline the nature of the issue and the punishment.
FMF statement
The Disciplinary Commission applies a fine to Club Rayados de Monterrey for double use of the #16 on a jersey in the same season.
The Disciplinary Commission reports that in the match corresponding to Matchday 8 of the Liga MX 2023 Apertura Tournament, between the Rayados de Monterrey and Club León, an incident occurred where the player Jesús Manuel Corona Ruíz of Rayados de Monterrey entered the field wearing the shirt number (16) sixteen. This number had already been used by the player Celso Fabián Ortíz Gamarra on Matchdays 1, 2 and 3 of this tournament.
This act is considered an administrative error on the part of the Rayados de Monterrey Club, since the numbering is a consequence of a regulatory record, which is why it violated articles 51 paragraph) of the FMF Sanctions Regulations and 91 paragraph b ) of the Liga MX Competition Regulations.
Derived from the above, it is been decided to apply a fine Club Rayados de Monterrey (undisclosed quantity) and they have been requested to make the pertinent changes for their next official match.
New number calling for Tecatito
Los Rayados have 25 registered players in the first team and therefore 25 separate numbers allocated to these players with the numbers ranging from 1 to 34. As things stand, the former Sevilla FC player could select: 2, 3, 13, 23, 30 or 32.
Monterrey has retired the number 12 jersey which is a tribute to the role of the fans and both numbers 26 (Humberto Suazo) and number 28 (Jesús Arellano) are also retired as a mark of respect for two of the greatest players to ever sport the blue and white Monterrey stripes.
