US international Giovanni Reyna joined Nottingham Forest on loan during the winter transfer window in a move that will benefit both the club and the 21-year-old.

Forest are currently in 17th place in the Premier League with just 20 points and urgently need to start picking up points both at the City Ground and on the road.

Ahead of the game against Bournemouth on Sunday, Forest boss Nuno Espírito Santo spoke to the press and highlighted the importance, mobility and impact that Reyna can bring following his signing.

“He’s another offensive option,” Nuno said. “He’s a very good player with a lot of potential. He can play in high or wide areas, he can play central, so he can give us the versatility that we need.”

Reyna joins USA compatriot and first-choice goalkeeper Matt Turner, which will help his adaptation in the UK after moving from Germany.

Competition for Turner

Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels has also joined the Premier League club from French side Strasbourg, so the pressure will be on US shot-stopper Turner. “Matz is here because he’s a good goalkeeper, he’s experienced, he’s been [in England] before and he’s playing regularly and he gives us another option, so it’s up to us to decide when is the moment [to play him],” added Nuno.
