What was an open secret has finally been confirmed. Chilean defender Igor Lichnovsky has swapped Tigres for América, where he will spend the rest of the season. The Águilas announced the signing on their official media channels.

Injuries in defence

Injuries to two key centre-backs forced América’s board to act. Israel Reyes suffered a tear to his right hamstring in the 2-3 win over Cruz Azul at the start of the month and faces a month on the sidelines. Nestor Araújo meanwhile picked up a knee injury in the Leagues Cup Round of 16 tie against Nashville and has missed the last four games since the Liga MX resumed.

The was little resistance to retain their player in San Nicolás. Lichnovsky found himself frozen out of the team and made just 11 starts in the Clausura 2023. Sources close to this newspaper confirmed that the transfer of the Peñaflor-born player was sought from the capital, and everything remained in the hands of the footballer himself. He joins André Jardine’s team on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Lichnovsky enjoyed spells at other Liga MX clubs (Necaxa, Cruz Azul) and has played in Europe - in Spain with Valladolid and Sporting Gijón and in Portugal with Porto B.
