One of the standout fixture of the matchday 10 in Liga MX’s Clausura 2023 will see Club América defend their long unbeaten home record against Apertura 2022 winners Pachuca. Las Águilas’ last league defeat at Estadio Azteca came over a year ago against - guess who? - Los Tuzos on 20 February 2022. History suggests that the hosts are in for another tough challenge this weekend, although Guillermo Almada’s men don’t go into the game in great form having lost two games in a row, a sequence that has seen them drop out of the top four into sixth, one place being Saturday’s opponents.

What is Pachuca’s recent record away to Club América?

Historically, is a fixture that is fraught with danger for América, though, so perhaps form could go out the window. Of the other teams that are currently in Liga MX, Pachuca are the only one to have won more than they have lost when they have made the trip to ‘The Temple of Mexican Football’.

Since the short tournament format was introduced, Los Tuzos have taken on América at Azteca on 31 occasions, winning 13, drawing nine and losing nine. Their first triumph was a narrow win in the Summer 2001 tournament, while their biggest margin of victory was by four goals to one in the Clausura 2016. As mentioned, they picked up three points - winning 3-1 - on their last visit to Ame just over a year ago.

Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano bursts onto the scene against Ame

One of the most memorable incidents in the fixture in recent years came in February 2014, with the game goalless going into the final two minutes. A few moment earlier, a youngster by the name of Hirving Lozano replaced Jürgen Damm to make his debut for Los Tuzos and ended up being the match-winner with a strike from the edge of the penalty box. The rest, as they say, was history for ‘Chucky’.
