The Águilas of América are going through a good spell in the Clausura 2023, sitting fifth in the general table and with one of the best regarded squads in Liga MX. Despite the fact that the transfer market is not open at the moment, those from Coapa are already thinking about reinforcing their team for next season.

In the last few hours, the rumor about a possible return of the Colombian Mateus Uribe was ignited, which immediately piqued interest from fans on social media.

What is the situation with Uribe and América?

According to reporter Julio Ibáñez from the TUDN network, one of the factors for a possible return of the player would be that his contract with Porto comes to an end in the summer, so he would be a free agent. Likewise, the reunion of América with Uribe would not be anything new, since a few months ago there were talks to incorporate him, but the issue of his age and high salary were an impediment to reaching an agreement.

‘A return of Matheus Uribe to America looks complicated...,’ Ibañez tweeted. ‘A few months ago there was contact between the board and his representative. The player’s age and the salary they were seeking did not help the situation progress.’

How old is Mateus Uribe and when does his contract end?

Uribe will turn 32 on March 21, while his contract with Porto ends on June 30, 2023. In recent weeks, the Correio da Manhã newspaper reported that the Colombian had intentions of signing a renewal, but his financial demands and the fact that he would be looking for a long-term deal at his age hampered the negotiations.
