Looking ahead to the preparation match between the United States and Ghana on Tuesday in Nashville, it’s an opportune moment to take a closer look at the exceptional footballers within the Black Stars squad. The USMNT face one of the most prominent teams in Africa so will need to bring their A-game.

The Stars and Stripes is coming off a 1-3 defeat against their German counterparts. As a result, the upcoming clash against Ghana holds significant importance for the confidence of the team led by Gregg Berhalter on their path to the Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals.

Who are Ghana’s stars?

Thomas Partey:

The midfielder, who previously played for Atlético Madrid and now plies his trade in the Premier League with title-pushing Arsenal, stands as a pillar in Ghana’s project towards the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite some loss of prominence under Mikel Arteta, impacted by injuries, the 30-year-old has also become an option for the right-back position in addition to his central midfield role.

Mohammed Kudus:

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder recently joined the English top-flight with West Ham in London after a successful stint with Ajax in Amsterdam. With the aim of continuing to grow as a footballer, Kudus represents the biggest promise for the Ghanaian national team, not only for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations but also for the 2026 United World Cup.

Iñaki Williams:

The Athletic Bilbao forward joined the Black Stars squad after a brief period with the Spanish national team, which he was also eligible for. Due to not being considered key in Spain, and due to personal convictions, he decided to represent the African giant. In the match against Mexico, he started on the bench but could now serve as the primary offensive weapon for Chris Hughton.

Aidoo absent for Ghana vs USMNT and beyond

During the game between the Ghana and Mexico on Saturday, Celta Vigo’s central defender, Joseph Aidoo, was injured. After carrying out the necessary examinations, it was revealed on Monday that he suffered an Achilles tendon rupture and will miss the remainder of the season in Europe.
