Pumas received the Christmas gift they were hoping for - on Monday night, Piero Quispe arrived in Mexico City to complete his move to the club. The Peruvian will undergo a medical before signing his contract with the Pedregal-based side. Upon his arrival at the AICM he was received by a large group of fans and several media outlets, to whom he expressed his desire to win silverware with the Auriazules.

“I’m very happy - for me, and happy to have won a title back in Peru, but now I’m thinking about what I’m going to do here,” the 22-year-old told reporters. “I have a very positive outlook, and a lot of faith in God. Pumas is a club with a lot of history and a great fan base”.

New experience

He added, “Coming here is a purely football thing. Leaving your family, friends, your people who were always with you, but this is the life of a footballer. I knew it could happen and it did. I am very proud of myself, my parents too, and I am doing all this for them, for their future. Like every player, I want to be a champion, yo win the league. I have come here to give my all, with a lot of work and sacrifice, with work I think I can achieve it”.

Quispe also mentioned that he has heard all about the Liga MX from what his Peru team mates who have played in Mexican soccer told him. He acknowledged that he will have to work as hard as possible to win over the Pumas fans, one of the most demanding fanbases in Mexico.

I am going to do my best to win over the fans, but that is something that you only earn by working hard. Just because I come from Peru, they’re not going to love me - they have to see me play. I’m going to give my all in every training session, with a lot of sacrifice and a lot of faith. There are a number of Peru international who play in here the Mexican league. I’ve watched it, it’s a good league with very good players. I feel like I can fit in well here,” he ended.
