Possible Chile starting eleven for 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador
Currently languishing in eighth place in the CONMEBOL group, ‘La Roja’ head to Quito looking for a second win in the qualifying campaign.
Despite an unsettled backdrop for La Roja with Eduardo Berizzo standing down as coach over the weekend, interim coach Nicolás Córdova is preparing his squad for Tuesday’s clash against Ecuador in Quito as he looks to close the year with a win and fire Chile back into contention in the CONMEBOL group.
Córdova is forced to find a replacement for team captain Gary Medel, who is out due to suspension. Matías Catalán is expected to come in for the “Pitbull” at right back and Paulo Díaz seems poised to start at the back with Guillermo Maripán.
Despite coming on as a sub, Víctor Felipe Méndez was also dismissed in the game against Paraguay and will serve a one match ban against Ecuador.
Córdova is also expected to utilise Alexis Sánchez in a more offensive role and will play alongside Ben Brereton and Víctor Dávila or Alexander Aravena.
Possible Chile XI vs Ecuador
The starting lineup for Chile in Quito is expected to be: Brayan Cortés; Catalán, Díaz, Maripán, Gabriel Suazo; Erick Pulgar, Rodrigo Echeverría, Núñez; Dávila (Aravena), Sánchez and Brereton.
