Possible USMNT line-up vs Jamaica today in the CONCACAF Nations League

The United States travel to Kingston to play their first competitive game under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of his first competitive game as head coach of the United States men’s national team, as the tournament holders visit Jamaica in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Can USMNT reach CNL finals again?

Today’s clash in Kingston is the opener in a two-legged last-eight tie, whose winner will progress to the Nations League finals in Los Angeles in March. The four semi-finalists will also qualify automatically for the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which is to take place in the US and Canada in June and July.

Pochettino urges USMNT solidity in Jamaica

Appointed on a two-year contract in September, Pochettino kicked off his USMNT tenure with two friendlies last month, overseeing a 2-0 home win over Panama before watching his team lose 2-0 to arch North American rivals Mexico in Zapopan. Ahead of his competitive bow as USMNT boss, Pochettino has cut a confident figure, but is conscious of the difficulty of the test his players face as visitors at Jamaica’s Independence Park.

“In Kingston it’s going to be a tough game,” Pochettino said ahead of the Nations League clash. “The conditions, for sure, will be different to the conditions we are going to find in [the second leg in] St Louis, and the thing is to adapt to the circumstance: to be a solid team that can challenge Jamaica in Kingston is going to be a massive step. [It’s going to be about] improving the mentality, the capacity to be all together, to fight together […]. Our aggression after [the defeat to] Mexico is one of the main things that we need to improve.”

Given that a place in the Nations League finals and the Gold Cup is at stake, Pochettino is unlikely to hold back with his team selection, with players at his disposal such as Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream, Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie, Brenden Aaronson, Ricardo Pepi, Tim Weah and Christian Pulisic. The Argentinian is not expected to ring the changes from last month’s internationals; he’s likely to maintain the spine of the teams he fielded against Panama and Mexico.

We anticipate that the USMNT’s line-up against Jamaica will be: Matt Turner, Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Joe Scally, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Johnny Carsoso, Christian Pulisic, Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi.
