AC Milan host Inter at San Siro in tonight’s Champions League semi-final first leg (3pm ET). The two teams are facing each other in European competition for the first time since 2005, and is set to be one of the most intriguing matches in recent Italian football history.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli told reporters on Tuesday that star player Rafa Leão, after coming off injured against Lazio, trained as normal during the week: “tomorrow I will decide what to do”, he said, adding that “If the test is clean he can play. If it is not clean he cannot play - either from the start or the end. I would have preferred to do it today, but it was not possible.”

Team news:

As mentioned, Rafael Leão is the big question mark above Pioli’s head, with the players suffering from a muscle injury and being forced off after just 12 minutes. The player had intended to be fit for the first leg, although it appears as the game has come slightly too soon for the Portuguese. As for the away side, Inter’s Robin Gosens is likely to be kept on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

The fans, who share the stadium in a unique way, will be cheering on AC Milan and Inter at the same ground given the two clubs’ special relationship with each other, in which they share San Siro on a bi-weekly basis.

Confirmed lineups:

AC Milan XI: Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Kjær, Hernández; Tonali, Krunic; Díaz, Bennacer, Saelemaekers; Giroud

Inter XI: Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Çalhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Martínez, Dzeko
