The Premier League returns on Friday, earlier than usual due to the 2022 World Cup this winter. First up is Crystal Palace against Arsenal at Selhurst Park.

We have had a taste of competitive action, with last weekend’s Community Shield between Liverpool and Manchester City offering us a glimpse of what is to come.

Erling Haaland and Darwin Núñez both featured in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory, with the latter scoring late on to hand Jurgen Klopp’s side the trophy.

Current champions City have added the Norwegian powerhouse to their ranks and will be favourites for many to retain the league title.

Liverpool fans, on the other hand, will be confident that Núñez, brought in from Benfica, will give the Anfield outfit the goals to fire them to the title next May.

Chelsea and Spurs bolster squads

Both Chelsea and Tottenham have added to their respective squads, as have Arsenal, with former City forward Gabriel Jesus on fire for the Gunners in pre-season.

Manchester United are not expected to challenge under new manager Erik ten Hag this season and have brought in defender Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martínez as well as Denmark international Christian Eriksen.

With just under a month to go in the summer transfer window, some of the Premier League’s top sides will continue to add to their squads as they look to challenge this year.

The favourites to win the 2022-23 Premier League title

Manchester City - 8/13

Liverpool - 9/4

Tottenham - 14/1

Chelsea - 16/1

Man Utd - 40/1

It all gets underway on Friday after a long summer.
