Pep Guardiola’s team defeated West Ham United at the Etihad on the final weekend of the campaign to beat Arsenal to the title by two points, with The Gunners’ last day victory over Everton rendered meaningless.

Following his side’s triumph, Guardiola revealed he was “closer to leaving than staying,” although that was a reference when his contract expires at the end of next season. That means we should expect to see the former Barcelona head coach in the City dugout in 2024/25, but maybe not in 2025/26.

Guardiola has been in charge of the Sky Blues since 2016, with his eight-year spell by far the longest he has stayed in a single club. He previously had four years with Barça and three at Bayern Munich. One man who will not be managing in the Premier League next season, however, is Jürgen Klopp. The German has left Liverpool after almost nine years at the helm and went out in typically eye-catching fashion by chanting the name of replacement Arne Slot after his team’s 2-0 win over Wolves at Anfield in their final game.

Klopp’s time on Merseyside, however, ultimately ended in disappointment, with his team dropping out of the title race after dropping points in several games in the last few weeks of the season. The former Borussia Dortmund boss led Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years in 2020, the year after they won their sixth Champions League/European Cup.

The 2024/25 Premier League season will begin on Saturday 17 August and will run through until Sunday 25 May 2025. The fixture schedule will be released on Tuesday 18 June at 4am ET / 1am PT.

Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town, the three teams who were promoted in 2022/23, were all relegated at the end of their first season in the Premier League. They will be replaced by Championship winners Leicester City and runners-up Ipswich Town, along with Southampton, who went down at the end of 2022/23 but battled their way through the promotion playoffs after finishing fourth.
