Premier League clubs fighting over Real Madrid’s hottest prospect
Three top English clubs have already contacted the striker’s entourage. His release clause is a bargain, but he wants to stay.
The jewel of the Real Madrid youth academy, currently shining at the Club World Cup in the United States with three brilliant performances against Al Hilal, Pachuca, and Salzburg, has become the object of desire for the Premier League’s elite clubs.
Gonzalo García, just 21 years old, has caught the attention of the most powerful and financially strongest teams in the league with his impressive displays so far in the tournament.
According to AS, three top Premier League clubs have reached out to Gonzalo’s representatives to explore the possibility of signing him this summer. For now, these are merely exploratory talks aimed at understanding the youngster’s contractual situation — one that is highly tempting for his suitors. Gonzalo still has two years left on his contract with Real Madrid, but his buyout clause is a bargain by Premier League standards: just $55 million.

Gonzalo’s foremost desire is to remain part of Real Madrid’s first team under Xabi Alonso and to succeed at the club he has always dreamed of representing. He aspires to be the first youth academy player to firmly establish himself at the Bernabéu since Carvajal, Nacho, and Lucas Vázquez, the most recent to achieve that milestone. While many compare him to Joselu, Gonzalo would prefer not to have to build his career across various European leagues, as the Galician striker did, and instead break through at Madrid right away.
The club plans to wait until after the Club World Cup to meet with Gonzalo’s representatives and try to secure his future. However, it is critical to remain vigilant, as the Premier League clubs are pressing hard. Those three top English teams were clearly impressed by the breadth of his experience as a striker.
In the US tournament, Gonzalo has already scored two goals and provided an assist in his challenging role as Mbappé’s substitute. He has also demonstrated aerial prowess and impressive versatility, capable of playing across all three attacking positions. His relentless pressing when the opponent has possession (a trait Xabi Alonso highly values) and his quality first-touch passing reveal that he is much more than just a goal scorer and finisher. Even the Tolosa native has drawn comparisons between Gonzalo and a legend like Raúl González, his coach at Castilla—where he previously developed significantly alongside Arbeloa in Juvenil A.
In two weeks, after the World Cup, we’ll finally learn what the future holds for Gonzalo, especially as the club must decide on Endrick’s future (the Brazilian turns 19 on July 21). If Endrick stays, Gonzalo’s chances of regular playing time may diminish. However, a loan move to gain 35 to 40 matches and return more experienced by 2026 could be the ideal path for the young talent to remain part of Real Madrid’s plans.
