Premier League relegation battle: Which teams are going down in each scenario?
Ahead of the final day Everton, Leeds United and Leicester City could all join Southampton in the relegation places.
Three established Premier League teams run the risk of relegation on Sunday in the final matchday of the English top flight.
As it stands Leeds United and Leicester City are in the relegation places, while Everton are two points ahead. Two of those three teams, each of them celebrated footballing institutions, will end the day in heartbreak as they drop down to the second tier.
It promises to be a thrilling day of football with real jeopardy for those who slip out of the Premier League. Here’s everything you need to know about the Premier League 2022/23 relegation battle...
Premier League relegation scenarios
If the final day is about anything, it’s about permutations. It’s about knowing exactly what you need to do to ensure you meet your goals, but of course that can change as the day unfolds.
At the start of play, this is where things stood...
Everton, who are currently out of the relegation places, can ensure their Premier League survival if they win at home to Bournemouth. If the Toffees are successful, Leeds and Leicester are down regardless of their results.

If Everton draw and Leicester fail to win, Leeds could leapfrog both of them with a win by a three-goal margin.
If Everton lose then the picture is the same for Leicester, who would still need a win to secure safety. For Leeds the picture would be slightly different; any victory on the final day would be enough to secure their Premier League status for another year.
Relegation battle fixtures

In both of those respects all three teams have fairly favourable fixtures...
- Everton vs Bournemouth
- Leeds United vs Tottenham Hotspur
- Leicester City vs West Ham United
Only Tottenham, who are within touching distance of Europa Conference League qualification, have anything to play for on Sunday. Even that is not particularly enticing, given the ambivalence that ‘Big Six’ supporters often feel towards UEFA’s third-tier competition.
