We are now past the halfway mark in the 2022-23 Premier League season and have looked at the best eleven players of the current season.

League leaders Arsenal have been in fine form, picking up 50 points from their 19 games, and several of their young stars have made it into our best XI.

Aaron Ramsdale

Ramsdale’s big-money move from Sheffield United has paid off and he has become a vital part of Arsenal’s season, conceding just 16 goals in 19 games.

Kieran Trippier

Trippier made the move from Atlético Madrid to Newcastle after lifting the La Liga title in Spain. The England international said that head coach Diego Simeone helped him become a better defender and the right-back has certainly displayed that this season, being outstanding in defence and going forward.

William Saliba

The young Frenchman has played in every one of Arsenal’s league games this season and has even come up with two goals and an assist. He has helped strengthen the back four at the Emirates after returning from loan spells in France.

Sven Botman

Brought in from Lille for €37 million last summer, Botman has played for Newcastle on 18 occasions in the Premier League, boosting the club’s backline alongside the more experienced Fabian Schär.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Without attempting to be influenced by recency bias, Zinchenko was superb in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday. Playing largely as an inverted left-back, he influenced play centrally and was key to securing the three points when he crossed before Eddie Nketiah tucked away the late winner. Following in the footsteps of Mikel Arteta from Manchester to London may prove to be a very shrewd decision.

Bukayo Saka

It’s scary that Saka is still only 21. Roy Keane says he can go to the very top and even play for Real Madrid. He has featured in every league game for the Gunners this season and has chipped in with seven goals and seven assists for a total of 14 goal contributions.

Casemiro

Casemiro has been instrumental in United’s change in direction. The Brazil international has brought balance, experience and quality to the club’s midfield. A born winner, he allows forward players like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to do their thing.

Martin Ødegaard

In charge of Arsenal’s incredible first half of the season, captain Ødegaard oozes class and makes Arsenal tick with his magical left foot. One of the leaders under Arteta, the Norwegian has been a significant part of Arsenal’s title charge.

Miguel Almirón

Newcastle have surprised many this season, as has Almirón. The tricky Paraguayan winger has an impressive nine Premier League goals and one assist in 20 league games this season. Eddie Howe has worked wonders with a player who netted just once in 30 league games last season.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford looks like a new player under Erik ten Hag and has rediscovered his spark. The United forward suddenly has the confidence that was clearly missing before and has notched nine league goals since the start of the season. He has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Ten Hag and has been linked with a move to PSG.

Erling Haaland

Haaland is already the heavy favourite to win the Premier League Player of the Season Award and very few could argue against that decision. In his first season in England’s top flight, he has already netted 25 times in the league and it’s still only January.
