Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United: as it happened

Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United

Marcus Rashford gave Manchester United the lead with a world-class effort that flew past Aaron Ramsdale from outside the area.

Eddie Nketiah then levelled things up with a header at the back post after a left-wing cross from Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal took the lead when Bukayo Saka drove past Christian Eriksen to rifle an effort from 25 yards across De Gea and into the far corner.

United then equalised through World Cup winner Lisandro Martínez, when he headed over Gabriel on the line to make it 2-2 and give United hope.

Arsenal were relentless after that and their winner came right at the death when a cross from Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left fell to Nketiah, who flicked it home from close range to hand Arsenal all three points.

Match preview: Manchester United

United, who sit fourth in the Premier League, had won five in a row in the top flight until Wednesday’s away clash with Crystal Palace. At Selhurst Park, Bruno Fernandes’ first-half opener looked set to earn the Red Devils a sixth triumph on the spin, but Erik ten Hag’s men were denied by a fine late leveller, Michael Olise thumping a free-kick in off the bar in stoppage time.

Having also played one game more than Arsenal, United trail the North Londoners by eight points.

Match preview: Arsenal

Arsenal’s only Premier League loss this season came in September’s reverse fixture at Old Trafford, where Marcus Rashford’s second-half double gave Manchester United a 3-1 victory.

That defeat aside, the Gunners’ only dropped points this term have been draws with Southampton and Newcastle, allowing them to establish a commanding lead at the top of the table.

Indeed, Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s derby saw them go eight points clear. Four days later, Manchester City’s 4-2 victory over Spurs reduced the gap to five, but Mikel Arteta’s men have a game in hand on the second-placed defending champions.

Arsenal top of the league

A win for Arsenal today would extend the gap between themselves and United to eleven points.

The Gunners have won 15 of their 18 league games in 2022-23.

Manchester United are the only team to beat Arsenal so far this season.

They defeated Mikel Arteta’s side 3-1 at Old Trafford thanks to a Marcus Rashford brace and a debut goal from winger Antony.

as.com

No Casemiro at the Emirates

Brazilian midfielder Fred is expected to deputise for his compatriot Casemiro as the in-form No 6 picked up another yellow against Palace in midweek and will serve a suspension.

Erik ten Hag was notably frustrated by Casemiro’s booking and will have to do without the experienced midfielder against Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who will be looking to pull the strings for the Gunners.

Manchester United’s possible XI vs Arsenal in Premier League on Sunday

Manchester United travel to North London on Sunday to take on league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League.

After last weekend’s Manchester derby win over neighbours Manchester City, United were held to a 1-1 away to Crystal Palace in South London on Wednesday.

Bruno Fernandes scored with a well-taken finish after Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen linked up to play in the Portugal international to open the scoring at Selhurst Park.

After a strong first-half showing, Erik ten Hag’s side struggled to make it 2-0 and Patrick Vieira’s team grew into the game before Michael Olise’s stunning free-kick came off the bar and into the net to snatch a late draw for the Londoners.

United head south again this weekend, this time to the Emirates, where Mikel Arteta’s men await.
