PSG have decided to appoint Luis Enrique as their new head coach. The Asturian, who has not coached since the 2022 World Cup, has been chosen by QSI to succeed Christophe Galtier, after Julian Nagelsmann rejected the offer to join the French champions.

According to L’Équipe, there are still a few minor details to be ironed out before the deal can be finalised. Before trying to appoint Nagelsmann, PSG officials had sat down to negotiate a deal with the Spaniard, but the negotiations had cooled off after Doha’s attempt to sign the young German tactician.

PSG to sack Galtier

Before anything is made official, the club must announce the departure of Galtier, with whom there is already an agreement in place for the head coach to receive his severance package, which amounts to €6m.

PSG consider Luis Enrique to be the ideal coach as he has experience in the Champions League, a competition he won with Barcelona. His style of play has been key and he would know how to deal with the heavyweights in the dressing room. The Ligue 1 side have decided to accept the conditions that he has asked of them, aware that time is running out with only a few weeks to go before pre-season.

Spain boss

Luis Enrique’s last experience was with the Spain national team, who he led to a Nations League final and the semi-finals of the European Championship. Despite having attracted interest from big clubs, including Napoli and Chelsea, the Gijón native had given himself time to consider offers, with PSG being the most concrete and the one he could end up accepting the role in a few hours’ time.
