PSG’s Al Khelaïfi says “we have very good conversations with Kylian Mbappé”
The PSG president spoke about the ‘very good conversations’ with the French forward at the UEFA Champions League draw.
After a summer of sly winks, flirty hair flicks and air kisses, Kylian Mbappé looks set to stay at PSG. And now, in a potential thawing of what was the most frozen of icy relationships, president of the club, Nasser Al Khelaïfi, has said that he and Mbappé now have “very good conversations”.
In the Champions League draw, PSG saw themselves placed firmly into what footballing sadists would call the Group of Death. Along with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle, PSG are going to have no easy ride in this year’s elite competition.
Will Mbappé join Real Madrid?
The PSG president didn’t have to wait long after he arrived at the UEFA gala for questions to rain in like hailstones about Kylian Mbappé, a player with whom he now says he has “very good conversations”. I do wonder what they talk about.
While we don’t know exactly what will happen with the 2018 World Cup winner, all indications point to him sticking around in Paris for another season. 14-time Champions League winners, Real Madrid are, as has been reported, yet to lodge a formal bid from the player who has seen mammoth offers come in from the Middle East, meaning that for the time being, Mbappé is not moving.
Mbappé a ‘magnificent player’
“He’s a magnificent player”, said Al Khelaïfi of the man he sent to ‘exile’ during the summer, “as a person and a professional. We spoke to the rest of his family.”
Despite being friendly with Mbappé's family and calling the player a great pro, Al Khelaïfi was coy when probed about a potential contract extension for the player who reportedly earns around €72 million per year: “A renewal? I don’t want to talk about that”. Make of that what you will.
