Puebla troll Pumas about midday kick-off

La Franja used their social media platforms to rib their rivals, who weren’t too happy about having to play the early kick-off match in searing heat.

Given the intense heat wave that prevailed in Mexico City and the metropolitan area, Puebla’s Clausura 2024 Week 6 meeting Pumas kicked off at noon, the usual time for the cats, but that didn’t stop Puebla from trolling their opponents about the early start on social media.

Using their X account, La Franja shared a clip from the series Malcolm in the Middle in which the three brothers, Malcolm, Dewey and Reese, meet with their father Hal at a stock-car race. However, the intense heat on the racetrack ended up bothering them to the point where they lost interest in what was happening on the track.

Captioned: “And it’s only the first 15 minutes...” La Franja took a humorous take on the schedule. They ended up losing 3-0 to Pumas at Ciudad Universitaria, which explained the caption as the goals came towards the end of the game. Sub Alí Ávila and (2) and Guillermo Martínez claimed the goals in the final quarter of an hour while the visitors had Brayan Angulo sent off on 85 minutes.

Toto Salvio complains about the early kick-off

Before the game, Pumas player Eduardo Salvio had commented that it is difficult to play at that time due to the intense sun at that time, combined with altitude which makes it difficult for foreign players. He made it clear that there is no advantage at all in playing at midday.

“I have wanted to talk about this for a long time. Personally for me, it’s the worst thing to play at midday. I hope that whoever sets the schedule for us comes to play with us one day... I’ve already got used to it a little, but every time we play at 12 noon, it’s never cloudy. There is always fierce sun - it’s not good at all, for me or my teammates, we all hate playing at that time,” Salvio told reporters in a pre-match press conference.

Due to the Super Bowl LVIII which took place on Sunday, the Liga MX decided not to schedule any games at that same time, which is why the Pumas were handed and earlier kick-off time for their Week 6 game against Puebla. The felines, who sit sixth in the general table, are next in action on Wednesday when they are guests of Atlas at Jalisco stadium.
