Puebla vs Chivas rescheduled: looking back at notable Liga MX postponements
Puebla and Chivas Guadalajara couldn’t play their Apertura 2025 game on Friday, amid extreme weather conditions.
Yet another fixture in the Liga MX’s Apertura 2025 has been pushed back, this time the matchday-11 clash between Puebla and Chivas Guadalajara.
Why was Chivas vs Puebla called off?
The game couldn’t be played at its scheduled time on Friday, due to a severe thunderstorm that swept through Puebla.
The match at Estadio Cuauhtémoc will now played on Saturday, at 5 p.m. local time.
The current Apertura tournament has seen a number of matchups postponed for various reasons.
Notably, Chivas’s matchday-one clash with fellow giants Tigres also had to be rescheduled, because the pitch at Estadio Akron was deemed unplayable due to poor conditions.
Postponements of tournaments past
In previous Liga MX tournaments, one of the most memorable reschedulings came during the Clausura 2023, when Mazatlán was set to face León. That match was called off following the high-profile arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, which led to significant security concerns.
In the following Liga MX campaign, the showdown between Monterrey’s Rayados and Santos Laguna was also postponed, this time due to the scheduling of the Leagues Cup. The Monterrey side faced a congested calendar and had to adjust accordingly.
Back in the Clausura 2019, the semifinal between Club América and León couldn’t be held in Mexico City due to an environmental emergency. As a result, the match between the Águilas and the Esmeraldas was relocated to Querétaro.
