USA international Christian Pulisic has discussed the controversy between Gregg Berhalter and the Reyna family. Chelsea player Pulisic believes Berhalter is unlucky not to still be in charge of the USMNT.

Berhalter’s contract with US Soccer expired in December, with the governing body deciding to put any decision on his future on hold amid an investigation into claims he kicked his wife in an altercation in 1992.

The allegation was brought to US Soccer’s attention by Gio Reyna’s mother Danielle, who was angered by the treatment of her son under Berhalter at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I’m not here to appoint the next manager - it’s not my job - and whoever it is I’m going to play and give it 100 per cent,” Pulisic told ESPN.

Pulisic: Berhalter unfortunate

“Everything that happened with Gregg, first of all, has been handled in an extremely childish manner. I think we’ve seen what’s been going on. I think it’s childish, it’s youth soccer, people complaining about playing time,” he added.

“I don’t want to go too far into that, but I think Gregg has been extremely unfortunate to get into the position he is in now.”

US Soccer has appointed Anthony Hudson as interim manager of the USMNT, but also confirmed that Berhalter remains under consideration for a new contract, which could see the American tactician and Pulisic link up again.

The USMNT take on Grenada on Saturday March 25 before playing El Salvador on the following Tuesday, with Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund player Reyna both part of the roster.
