Pulisic: Captain America challenges Inter again
The Milan striker faces another Derby della Madonnina and says there is no feeling more special than scoring against the Nerazzurri.
The most anticipated derby in Serie A is being played at San Siro, also known as the Giuseppe Meazza, a stadium that still holds the memory of the only goal scored in a previous Milan-Inter meeting.
Since arriving at the Rossoneri, Christian Pulisic has become an essential player in matches against the Nerazzurri. His three goals in eight appearances against Cristian Chivu’s side reflect just how decisive he has been in this fixture.
Despite uncertainty surrounding the bursitis that has not completely disappeared, “Captain America” is on the pitch once again, hoping to tear into the net against his fiercest rival. It is a feeling he spoke about in the build-up to the derby.
“No extra motivation is needed for this type of game”
Speaking with CBS Sports, the forward appeared relaxed and shared a thought that captures the magic of the Derby della Madonnina.
“No extra motivation is needed for this type of game. It’s a derby, we’re ready,” he said when asked about the atmosphere and what gives a night like this in Italy its special edge.
Smiling as he looked at the fans who had already filled the stadium, the US Men’s National Team’s top scorer added that during derby week the city becomes a cauldron of emotion. The rivalry dates back decades, when Inter was seen as representing the bourgeoisie while AC Milan became closely associated with the working class.
“Now the moment has arrived, everyone is here and we are ready to start the fight,” added the No. 11.
As one of the few players to have scored more than once against Inter, Pulisic admits the feeling is exactly what children dream about when they begin playing the beautiful game. In matches of this magnitude, he explained, providing an assist or scoring a goal carries a special meaning. “There’s no better feeling,” he said.
