Pulisic rumours grow as AC Milan make huge changes following league failure

The USMNT winger’s future is less than certain after AC Milan made sweeping changes to their hierarchy.

Update:

In football, flush outs follow failure. AC Milan’s season was not a disastrous mid-table finish like last year, but their objectives of entering Europe’s elite competition were not fulfilled.

They came 5th in the division, qualifying for the Europa League, and missing out on Champions League football next season.

As a result, Milan have moved quickly to fire manager Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, Director Igli Tare, and Head of Scouting Geoffrey Moncada in a huge refresh of their hierarchy.

Is Pulisic leaving AC Milan?

Given the incoming money from Europe’s secondary competition is nowhere close to what they could have earned had they made the elite, financial gaps will need filling in the Milan books across the off-season, and reports in Italy are already emerging linking players with moves away from the city.

Players such as Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot, Rafael Leão, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori have all been linked with departures since the season ended, and Pulisic is very much part of that list.

Manchester United had been linked with the player, although at present no persistent club links remain active. The World Cup will likely have an impact on the rumours, with many clubs wanting to wait until the conclusion of the tournament to start their summer business.

It’s likely that Pulisic’s World Cup performances themselves will also determine where he ends up playing football next season. He has gone without a goal since December and has two assists since August; strong showings are needed on home soil if he wishes to secure a top move or Milan decide to move him on for an amount of money they deem appropriate.

As for Pulisic’s World Cup dream, that is still very much alive. The USMNT begin against Paraguay on Friday, June 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, before facing Australia on Friday, June 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Lumen Field in Seattle. Mauricio Pochettino’s side then return to Los Angeles for a final group-stage showdown with Turkey on Thursday, June 25 at 10:00 p.m. ET, again at SoFi Stadium.
