Pulisic set to be dropped by Allegri

After a substandard performance on international duty, it now appears that Christian Pulisic will not start for Milan against Napoli.

Update:

Christian Pulisic will have even more time to reflect on a disastrous international break with the USMNT as he is set to watch AC Milan’s game against Napoli kick-off from the bench.

The winger failed to ignite his side on either occasion in the United States as they lost to both Belgium and Portugal, with fans looking ahead at what might be a tougher tournament than was expected when the initial hype around hosting was at its highest.

And now he is set to be dropped by head coach Massimiliano Allegri for the game against Napoli in Serie A.

Pulisic going through desert-sized drought

According to Sky Sports, Pulisic will be left on the bench alongside Rafael Leão as Allegri looks to find a winning formula for the final stretch of the season. His form has collapsed like a melted waxwork since the start of 2026, with the player recording just a single assist when it comes to goal contributions for both club and country, with no goals in 14.

Ahead of kick-off, AC Milan are second in LaLiga, behind cross-city rivals Inter. However, the points gap looks unassailable, with Inter holding a 9-point advantage over the Rossoneri. What’s more, the gap to third has shrunk down, and Napoli are just one point behind them, meaning a loss tonight would see Pulisic’s side end the match day in third position in the table.

At present, it appears as though Allegri will start with Nkunku and Füllkrug up front against Napoli’s likely back three of Buongiorno, Olivera, and Juan Jésus. This would leave Pulisic and Leão as attacking options to bring on should the game need opening up at a later stage.
