Pumas endure Tigres frustration - yet again
Pumas’ draw with Tigres on Saturday continued Los Universitarios’ winless run against their Liga MX rivals.
On Matchday 9 of the Apertura 2025, Pumas UNAM welcomed Tigres UANL to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, where the two sides played out a 1-1 draw. The result does little to help the hosts, as their winless streak against the Monterrey-based club now stretches to two years.
When did Pumas last beat Tigres?
You have to go back to August 27, 2023, for the last time Pumas managed to defeat Tigres. That victory came in Week 6 of the Apertura 2023, when the Mexico City side edged out Tigres 2-1 at home in Ciudad Universitaria.
Since then, Pumas have failed to get the better of Tigres in Liga MX play, whether at home or on the road. The matchups have become tightly contested affairs, with Tigres managing just three wins in that span.
This trio of victories has included only one win by more than a single goal - a 3-1 result in the Apertura 2024.
Draws have also been a recurring theme, with three stalemates recorded in recent meetings. Notably, there hasn’t been a scoreless draw between these two teams since the Apertura 2021, so whenever Pumas and Tigres face off, fans can expect excitement - even if UNAM often struggles to break down Tigres’ stout defense and reach the final third.
Where are Pumas and Tigres in the Liga MX table?
Pumas currently sit seventh in the Apertura 2025 standings with 13 points, fighting to secure a spot in the direct playoff positions. To do so, they’ll need to start picking up full three-point hauls. Meanwhile, Tigres are in sixth place with 16 points.
