Pumas pull out of Marquinhos move

The player doesn’t get the move he wanted after Ferencvaros turn down Pumas offer.

The player doesn’t get the move he wanted after Ferencvaros turn down Pumas offer.

UNAM Pumas have pulled out of the race to sign the Brazilian striker José Marcos Costa Martens - more commonly known as Marquinhos. Despite the great interest that both the capital club and the player showed in reaching an agreement, it appears that Ferencvaros were not completely satisfied with the proposal. The Hungarian side were expecting a more generous offer but that will not be coming and therefore, there will be no deal.

Bid rejected

According to transfer specialist, César Luis Merlo: “Marquinhos Costa, a 24-year-old centre-forward, will not join the UNAM Pumas. Ferencváros rejected the second offer from the Auriazules, who, despite raising their offer, could not change the mind of the Hungarian board“(...)

The Brazilian had done everything possible to make the transfer go though, because he really wanted to come to Pumas, but he also respects the decision of the club that has hired him and, consequently, the signing will not be made ”. Even with this panorama, it is expected that the Pedregal team will look to make one last signing before the transfer market ends.

One ‘NFM’ place left

With the departure of Gustavo del Prete to Mazatlán, Pumas freed up a slot for one ‘Not Trained in Mexico’ player; That was a big factor in the club’s insistence on acquiring Marquinhos’ services. The Auriazul board will be working flat out over the next few days in a bid to sign an attacking player - in all likelihood a foreign player.

Curiously, current Pumas coach Gustavo Lema, is an old acquaintance of the South American footballer - he coached him, together with Antonio Mohamed during their time at Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro, the club from whom they signed Brazilian centre-back, Nathan Silva on a $4 million deal last summer ahead of the last tournament.
