MONTERREY
Rayados confirm Ortiz as new head coach
The former Club América head coach replaces Víctor Manuel Vucetich on the Monterrey bench.
Rayados del Monterrey were among the firm favourites to lift the Clausura 2023 trophy after a spectacular regular season tournament but slipped up against Tigres in the semifinals. Their elimination at the hands of local rivals from Nuevo Leon subsequently ending the term of Víctor Manuel Vucetich on the Monterrey bench. The club from the north wasted little time in finding a replacement with Fernando Ortiz drafted in as new coach.
Ortiz’s task is to now prepare the team for the 2023 Apertura which gets underway at the end of June.
The Estadio BBVA side announced the arrival of the man who, until 10 days ago, was the head coach of América, but just like Rayados, the Aguilas fell short at the penultimate hurdle of the 2023 Clausura season being eliminated by Chivas.
Ortiz era
Águilas del América initially drafted in Fernando Ortiz as a replacement for compatriot Santiago Solari with the 45-year-old taking the side from Coapa to three semifinals, but he was unable to find the final piece of the puzzle to take the Azteca side all the way.
