For Monterrey, there are still a number of issues that need to be cleared up ahead of the Liga MX Apertura 2023 - one, concerning the coach. The club is considering the possibility of dismissing Víctor Manuel Vucetich after the team’s recent elimination by their staunch rivals, Tigres in the semi-finals of the Clausura 2023.

The board has been working to specify what plan of action to take, who would be the best replacement for Vucetich and how they might go about signing them. After a meeting of more than four hours at the club’s training facilities El Barrial, directors concluded that a final decision will be made on Monday.

Director of Sport José Antonio ‘Tato’ Noriega gave details of the meeting and revealed some of the concepts that had been discussed. “I hope to be able to have something to tell you on Monday. We have to be responsible and think things through carefully. We are already ahead of schedule in terms of planning the pre-season and reinforcements and so on. We are now concentrating on some of the decisions that have been made,” he explained to the media.

Noriega, who replaced Duilio Davino at the start of the year, refused to clarify whether Vucetich would continue or not but explained that several options are still being considered. “Nothing has been decided,” he told reporters.

He ended by explaining that the board are upset and disappointed by the way the season ended, Rayados spent much of the regular season as leaders, ending top of the standings on 40 points only to be knocked out by Tigres in the semis.

Víctor was angry with the defeat to Tigres, as we all were,” he added. “There was dialogue about how both sides viewed the situation,” he concluded.

According to sources, Monterrey are not planning to make any reinforcements to the squad until a decision is made about who will lead the project in the Aperura 2023. One of the main candidates to replace ‘King Midas’ is Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz, former América coach who stepped down last week after the team were eliminated by Chivas in the semis.
