Real Madrid Spanish Super Cup injury update: Carvajal calf’s concern

Carvajal is set to play in the Clásico (Sunday 14 January 2024. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm ET/11am PT.), and there’s no doubt about his presence in the final.

However, the hours leading up to the game will be a process of pampering and careful attention. The full-back finished the derby with a very sore calf, a consequence of a substantial overload resulting from his outstanding performance (including two assists and a goal, marking his most electrifying display of the season).

The feelings in the hours following the match were not entirely positive, but with each passing day, he has been making progress: he is ready for Sunday. Nevertheless, his return will require a specific recovery plan tailored to his calf.

Carvajal absent from training

Today, he was absent from the group’s training, the only player missing from the squad. While his teammates engaged in a light session, centred on ball work without intense physical exertion, he was instead accompanied by a physiotherapist, focusing on the affected area. Subsequently, he participated in cycling and gym exercises, accumulating just under half an hour of total activity.

With a light workload, he then headed to the locker room for some rest. Notably, he confidently walked past the press, showcasing that he is at ease and has no qualms regarding movement and support. This reinforces the fact that his post-game discomfort is not a cause for concern.

A bust schedule for both sides

Club sources have whispered that Carvajal will join the group in tomorrow’s session, all but confirming his participation in Sunday’s final. Ahead of the game, Ancelotti will address the media, followed by a photo session where he, alongside Xavi, will pose with the trophy. Then, Xavi will have his turn to speak. Subsequently, the final’s referees (Martínez Munuera and Soto Grado) will hold a press conference.

In the afternoon, a Real Madrid player is set to speak, and the team will commence training shortly after, with Carvajal expected to participate.
